Glittering ceremony marks 2016 Emir Cup football draw

EIGHTEEN teams from the first and second divisions of the Qatar Stars League & Qatargas League were drawn in the Emir Cup football tournament at an elaborate draw ceremony held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Doha on Wednesday.

Newly crowned Qatargas League champion Muaither will kick off this season’s Emir Cup 2016 competition with familiar foes Al Shahaniya at Al Arabi Stadium on April 18. In the second game, Al Makrkhiya and Al Shamal will face-off for a place in the second round of the tournament.

At the start of the draw ceremony to commemorate the 44th edition of the tournament, a documentary highlighted the history of Qatar’s most popular football competition in its 44th year.

The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al Thani, President of Qatar Football Association (QFA), Saoud al Mohannadi, Vice President of QFA, Mansoor Al Ansari, General Secretary of QFA, QFA Board Members, QFA’s partners officials of the 18 participating clubs besides members of the media.

The draw ceremony is the first of many events taking place to celebrate the most prestigious tournament of the year, the Emir Cup.
