Deputy Mayor of London visits Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al-Thani Museum in Qatar
Doha, Qatar – 28 March 2016: London’s Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy Matthew Pencharz and representatives from the British Embassy visited Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al-Thani Museum, one of the most unique museums in the Middle East.
The delegation was welcomed by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Faisal Al Thani, Vice Chairman, Al Faisal Holding Company and Sheikh Turki Bin Faisal Al Thani, Chairman, Al Sawari Holding.
Welcoming the delegation, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Faisal Al Thani, said: “It is a great honour to host such a remarkable delegation from the UK. We are delighted that such admirable artefacts can be viewed not only by local visitors but also international visitors. The visit of the delegation demonstrates the deep partnerships and friendship between the two nations.”
Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Turki Bin Faisal Al Thani said, “With a view to expanding and developing businesses in diverse sectors, we are honoured to receive this high-level delegation. We are now looking forward to building strong trade ties, and create a closer working relationship with the UK.”
H.E Ambassador Sharma said: “This is my first visit to the Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani museum, and I hope it won’t be my last. The museum’s collection is spectacular, and I greatly valued the time given by Sheikh Mohammad Bin Faisal al Thani and Sheikh Turki Bin Faisal Al Thani to the Deputy Mayor’s visit. As they say, the links between Qatar and the UK are strong, and I am delighted that we are continuing to build on these through visits such as this one. Many Qataris have invested in the UK, and I hope they will continue to do so.”
Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy, Matthew Pencharz, said: “Collaboration between London and Qatar-based institutions and individuals continues to grow and we are keen to build on that relationship to forge more partnerships in the future. Qatar is witnessing a rapid surge in sectors such as education, energy, tourism, manufacturing and logistics services, making this an ideal time for London firms to establish a foothold in the Qatari market.”
The visit was intended to acquaint the delegation with the collection of Qatar heritage, Islamic art and classic cars including several rare pieces from all the continents.
It is a treasure trove of Arabic manuscripts, fine arts, unique fossils, scriptures, vintage cars, pre-historic figurines, Islamic textiles, currency and rare coins.
