More Indonesians to take up jobs in Qatar – Doha

The Embassy of Indonesia in Doha has received requests from about 1,000 Indonesians willing to take up jobs in hotels, resorts and construction companies in Qatar so far this year.

Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar HE Muhammad Basri Sidehabi said there is an increasing demand for Indonesians in the hospitality and construction sectors. The ambassador said the trend was a welcome development as the mission had initiated programmes to bring more Indonesian professionals to the Gulf country. Read more About work in Qatar.

Currently, there are more than 43,000 Indonesians living in Qatar of which 11.2 percent work in the construction sector, 12.5 percent in the oil and gas industry and 55 percent in the domestic sector.

In an interview with Qatar Tribune, the ambassador said,”As a follow-up to the visit of Minister of Manpower of Indonesia to Qatar last May, we have initiated a number of programmes to recruit more Indonesian professionals. We have established communications and ties with notable service providers both in Qatar and Indonesia. The embassy provides input to the Vocational Training Centres operated by the Ministry of Manpower on how to better prepare the Qatar-bound Indonesian workers.”
