The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) on Monday signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) with the Qatar Satellite Company ‘Es’hailsat’ to operate and exchange expertise on the new planetarium at Katara.
The agreement was signed by Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti and Es’hailsat CEO Ali bin Ahmed al Kuwari at the Thuraya Dome (Katara Planetarium) building 45 on Monday at an event to announce the inauguration of the Planetarium in conjunction with the Qatar National Day 2018.
Sulaiti said, “I am satisfied about today’s meeting which witnesses the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Katara and Es’hailsat which will enable us to exchange expertise and promote knowledge
in astronomy.”
He added that the cooperation will include lectures and workshops for school and university students to enrich their information and to raise their interest in the field
of science.
“We hope that, through this cooperation, we will spread awareness about this critical sector and educate people in Qatar about astronomy, which will assist the new generations to keep up with the latest developments in the world,” Sulaiti added.
On his side, Kuwari stressed that this agreement will enhance and diversify knowledge of the students and empower them to be more effective and helpful in favour of human civilisation.
“We also hope that the new planetarium, which is the first of its kind in Qatar, to become a vital hub for teaching and introducing space science and astronomy through its many high-tech facilities it is equipped with,” he said.
The Planetarium is located in Katara in building 45 and features many high-tech equipment and displays of astronomy and models for planets, attached with an astronomy museum.
