The annual children’s drawing competition and exhibition was inaugurated by Salem Hammoud al-Shafi, director of the municipal control department at Doha Municipality, yesterday.
The event has been organised by Doha Municipality’s health control section under the theme ‘Together … to protect children from foodborne diseases’.
The opening ceremony was attended by Najlaa Abdulrahman, head of the section, and a number of municipality officials and employees.
The 2020 competition and exhibition will continue until February 13. The initiative is being held as part of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME)’s efforts to maintain the health and safety of consumers and as part of the awareness efforts of Doha Municipality to instruct children on the proper rules of food safety as well as environmental awareness, besides enhancing their artistic creativity, according to a press statement.
The exhibition hosts 40 paintings dealing with the concept of food safety with awareness messages in Arabic and English giving advice on the best ways to select good food products and avoid contaminated ones.
It is expected that more than 100 private and public schools will participate in the exhibition with around 30-40 students from each school taking part, the MME has said.
The event will receive students of six schools every day from 9am until noon. Booklets containing a select of the paintings from last year are being distributed among visitors.
