SAN FRANCISCO — A ferocious storm system pounded a huge swath of the West Coast with heavy rain, hurricane-force winds and power outages Thursday and into Friday. At least two people were killed.

As the storm moved south Friday, precautionary evacuations brought on by fear of mudslides began in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendora, where the foothills were stripped bare by a major wildfire earlier this year.
