Fire at Central Market controlled, no injuries reported
Doha – A fire broke out at the Central Market in Doha on Sunday afternoon. It took nearly two hours for Civil Defense to douse the blaze.
While a wholesale and retail supermarket Alfa Supermarket was gutted, no loss of life or injuries was reported. Besides the supermarket, two shops which deal in grocery items were partially damaged in the fire.
The fire broke out around 1 pm at Alfa Supermarket and in no time spread due to flammable items like edible oil, sugar and dried spices stored there. The employees immediately evacuated.
The fire was brought under control at about 2.45 pm. A Ministry of Interior (MoI) tweet stated:”A fire broke out in a number of shops near the central market and the concerned authorities began procedures at the site.”
