Ooredoo set to Open 5G research centre in Qatar
Ooredoo’s 5G technology research centre, the first of its kind in the world, will be operational in Qatar next year, a top official of the telecom major said on Sunday.
Talking to Qatar Tribune on the sidelines of the company’s annual general meeting (AGM), Ooredoo Qatar CEO Waleed al Sayed said the 5G research centre being developed in cooperation with Huawei will open for researchers from across the world in the beginning of the next year.
The centre will play a vital role in standardisation of 5G technology worldwide, he said.
The testing phase of 5G technology in Qatar is expected to begin in 2018, he said, adding that Ooredoo aims to roll out the ultra-fast speed for commercial use latest by 2020.
