Qatar is the 7th safest country in the world and the most peaceful among the Arab States and in the Middle East & North Africa (Mena) region, according to the global database of Crime Index for Countries 2016 issued by Numbeo.
South Korea has been ranked first followed by Singapore, Georgia, Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong before Qatar, which scored 20.41 points in the crime index. South Korea had the lowest score of 14.99 points.

Those countries with a rating higher than 80 are ranked as having a very high crime level.
The Numbeo survey takes into account many aspects of crime and safety in countries and cities, which include opinions about the seriousness of the crime, change of crime levels in the past three years, experiences of people while walking during daylight and night, incidence of robberies , stealing of cars, physical attacks by strangers, being insulted on the streets, being subject to any attack because of skin colour, ethnic origin, religion, etc.
Since 2009, Qatar has been placed at the top in the MENA region in the Global Peace Index published by Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP). The IEP, headquartered in Sydney, Australia uses several relevant indicators related to peace and safety including political stability, level of crime in the community, level of abuse among community members, internal conflicts and relations with neighboring countries ,terrorist crimes, etc.
It is noteworthy that the State of Qatar has accomplished this great achievement by the constant efforts and the keenness of the security authorities in the State.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has been working to realise the goal of maximum security and stability in the country through its strategies that are compatible with the Qatar National Vision 2030, in order to build an integrated security system.
All security departments contribute to implement this vision emphasising the principle of collective security efforts among the departments that ensure positive results of low crime rate in the society, a statement issued by the ministry’s public relations said.
“The ministry has established a number of security departments and expanded their sections and functions to suit the development and modernisation witnessed by the country in order to achieve a good and safe environment for security work.”
Moreover, the MoI has increased patrols to “prevent crimes before they happen” and enjoy security by all segments of the society. Most of the services provided by the Ministry have been digitalised to save time and efforts of the residents and allow them enjoy the benefits of technological advancements.
