The logo was designed by Ahmed Al Maadheed, the artist behind the iconic Tamim Al Majd portrait of the Emir H H Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

“I am proud that the logo of National Sport Day is my design and every year, we see it all over the country,” Al Maadheed tweeted yesterday.

On second Tuesday of February every year, Qatar celebrates National Sport Day, where everyone is encouraged to participate in sporting activities with colleagues and family. The first sport day was held in 2012.

Al Maadheed designed the current Sport Day logo in 2013.

Al Maadheed’s viral portrait of Emir with the arabic phrase “Tamim Al Majd” that translates to ‘Tamim is Glory’ became a national symbol to offer loyalty and complete support to the country and its leadership. The original portrait was presented to the Emir after many exhibitions around the country.

The well-known artist is also the man behind the mascots of the AFC Asian Cup in 2011.
