Wal-Mart plans to employ 1,500 new associates in Alabama this holiday season as part of an effort to hire 60,000 workers nationwide.
The big-box retailer is seeking employees for more than 100 Wal-Mart stores across the state. Positions include temporary cashiers, stockers and sales associates, all of which offer at least $9 per hour with the possibility of earning more depending on job duties and store location.
“Wal-Mart will have more associates in our stores working more hours this season, all with a focus on providing service and convenience to our customers,” said Judith McKenna, chief operating officer for Walmart U.S. “We will continue our ‘Checkout Promise’ by having more registers open during peak shopping times, helping customers save time by getting through our lines quicker.”
The company’s current employees will have priority over working additional hours during the holidays.
Some temporary jobs may transition to permanent positions after December, when seasonal hiring ends. McKenna said hundreds of Wal-Mart store managers started working for the company as seasonal associates.
“Last year, more than half of our seasonal associates stayed with Wal-Mart in a permanent role after the holidays,” she said.
