DOHA: Real Madrid legend and former Al Sadd captain Raul lauded the Al Kass International Cup, saying watching U-17 football matches was ‘exciting’.
The 40-year-old was speaking after watching the Al Kass International Cup final between PSG and Kashiwa Reysol on Wednesday. On Wednesday, PSG won the final 2-1 to complete a hat-trick of title wins in Doha having won in 2012 and 2015.
“I’m honoured to be here at the Aspire Academy again and although I wanted to see Real Madrid in the final, it was not possible,” Raul said after meeting with QFA officials and members of the organizing committee,
“But I was happy to be there and watch some matches in the Al Kass International Cup,” Raul added. The 12-team is an annual feature at Aspire Academy attracting youth teams of top clubs from around the world.
On his return to Doha, Raul added: “I have great memories of my time in Doha. I enjoyed playing here a lot when I was a player at Al Sadd and I am very happy to come back and meet people who have worked with them from coaches, players and members of the Academy.”
He added in an interview with Al Kass Sports Channel: “I think it’s the best tournament in the world right now because it allows players to meet different teams and different cultures from different continents and that’s very important for the young players. I think the championship is a big success every day and I’m happy to be here.”
