U.N. warns against ‘protracted’ conflict in Yemen

The United Nations mediator on Yemen warned on Sunday that the Arab country could turn into a “protracted” conflict zone similar to that of Iraq, Syria and Libya as the world’s top political body, the Security Council, affirmed its support for President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi and the country’s unity.

“Any side that would want to push the country in either direction would be inviting a protracted conflict in the vein of an Iraq-Libya-Syria combined scenario,” U.N. mediator Jamal Benomar told the U.N. Security Council via a video link from Doha.
