Ooredoo sponsored the annual Carnegie Apps Hackathon event, aimed at bringing together some of the brightest new tech talents in the region and hosted at Carnegie Mellon University Qatar (CMU-Q) in Doha.
During the event on Friday, students from some of the leading universities in Qatar and the Gulf region were offered the chance to develop an application or a prototype of an application in a 24-hour programming competition that was mentored by a group of seasoned technology professionals. The competition was judged by a panel of technology experts from CMU-Q and Ooredoo.
The event, which culminated in an award ceremony recognising students’ efforts and achievements, is known for offering a highly visible platform through which some of the most promising young innovators can showcase there skills and talents.
There were five categories in which participants could win awards: Best Overall App, Best Technical, Best Design, Best Rookie and the Ooredoo Special Theme for innovations in AI and 5G use cases pertinent to Ooredoo services. Prizes including smartphones and other devices were given to the winners.
