Qatar Charity (QC) drilled 163 artesian wells in the drought-hit areas of Somalia during 2019 in co-operation with the Somalia ministry of energy and water resources and local partners, benefiting 446,484 affected people in the country.
In the area of relief, various types of assistance, including food aid, were delivered to those in need, in addition to drinking water provided in rural areas, at a cost of QR6mn, benefiting some 119,606 people, QC said in a statement.
Qatar Charity’s 2019 water projects and relief campaigns for the benefit of those affected by drought amounted to nearly QR11.5mn, benefiting more than 550,000 people.
Qatar Charity’s water services in Somalia include drilling deep and surface water wells and water ponds, repairing deep-water wells, and installing solar-powered water pumps for drilled wells.
Qatar Charity gives priority to those most in need and implements water projects in co-operation with the Somalia ministry of energy and water resources and local partners.
QC has implemented more than 2,377 projects in Somalia during 2019, benefiting 1,027,415 people.
These projects in Somalia were implemented in various fields that include water, sanitation, education, culture, health, economic empowerment, building houses, social relief and sponsorship.
In 2018, Qatar Charity carried out 421 water projects in Somalia that benefited more than 1mn people.
