DOHA: “Words of Gold”, a calligraphy exhibition by Qatari artist Iman Al Saad, opened at Katara Cultural Village Building 22 on Monday.

The exhibition, inaugurated by Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara, continues until the end of this month. The exhibition includes a distinctive collection of paintings in which the artist celebrates verses from the Holy Quran, written in various calligraphies using gold.

“I dedicated my work in the first exhibition on the verses of the Holy Quran to my late mother Amna Mahmoud Al Jaidah, as she was the first to teach the Holy Quran in Qatar, and the profits of the whole exhibition will be donated on behalf of my mother to Qatar Charity,” said the artist.

Al Saad said that she chose the title “Words of Gold” for this exhibition for two principal reasons. First, she wanted to refer to what she had written from the Holy Quranic verses, as they were well worth to be written with gold, and the second reason was that she used gold in all of her paintings.

The artist started using the Diwani font in her early works for its beauty, later learning other fonts including Kufi, Moroccan kufi and the Sonbeli which can be seen in the exhibition. She also plans to use other fonts in her future works, she said.
