Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) volunteers have been working hard to serve society since the beginning of Ramadan, with a series of visits to different locations, as well as distribution of iftar meals with an average of 1,000 packets per day. A total 13 visits on the schedule involve 20-30 volunteers of QRCS. The organisations taking part in the programme include the General Administration of Traffic, Soul Riders Qatar, and other youth groups.
The locations to be visited include Katara Cultural Village, Souq Waqif, Souq Al-Wakra and Al Khor.
Some service institutions that work 24/7 are also included, such as the General Directorate of Civil Defense, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Qatar Rehabilitation Institute (QRI), Al Wakra Hospital, and the General Administration of Traffic. A group iftar banquet was held for seniors at the Center for Empowerment and Elderly Care (Ehsan).
Under the Joy Box initiative, Eid gifts will be distributed to children. Students will be engaged in distributing the iftar meals, under the Young Volunteer programme. The Garangao was celebrated at a primary school, in cooperation with the Orphan Care Center (Dreama).
In a statement, Ahmed A al Khulaifi, Head of Volunteers Section at QRCS, said, “Such charity visits are a good tradition of QRCS, as part of its socio-psychological support programmes for vulnerable groups such as patients, older persons, and orphans. It is a thank-you message for the workers who dedicate themselves to their jobs. Only with their efforts can we live normally. We do care for everyone in this country”.
Khulaifi praised the great efforts exerted by the volunteers in carrying our QRCS’s different social programs. “This is particularly evident during the holy month of Ramadan, when they perform many tasks such as managing Ramadan iftar tents, making visits to hospitals and services organisations, distributing iftar meals on the run and at sightseeing locations, and receiving the seekers of Ramadan and seasonal assistance.”
