Sundsvall’s Saint Lucia Day parade may break world record

Residents of the northern city of Sundsvall set a new world record for the biggest torch-lit parade during Saturday’s Saint Lucia Day festivities, according to Swedish Radio P4 Västernorrland.

Organizers say they are certain that at least 10,317 people took part in the procession, walking two kilometers over the newly built E4 bridge as they carried torches.

Local media report that this means they beat the record set in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2011, when 3,690 people gathered for a torch-lit parade. However, in order for the record to be official, the Guiness Book of World Records needs to approve it.
