The Supreme Judiciary Council (SJC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA), to alleviate the suffering of families of prisoners who fail to pay their debts and settlements in cases of small financial claims.
The MoU was signed by Chief of Enforcement Judge Dr Mansour Nasser al Qahtani and RACA General Manager Ibrahim Abdulla al Duheimi.
According to the MoU, charities supervised by RACA will help alleviate the suffering of families of convicted prisoners, who are unable to settle the amount in financial sentences.
This new initiative comes as part of the SJC’s keenness to help families affected by their inability to pay financial claims.
SJC President and President of the Court of Cassation HE Dr Hassan bin Lahdanal Hassan al Mohanadi said the council is taking into account the humanitarian conditions of these families and aims to alleviate their suffering through its initiatives in partnership with the humanitarian institutions and bodies in the State.
He said such initiatives contribute to the development of the justice system and meet the aim of the council for speedy implementation of the procedures of litigation. This also entails solving the problems in innovative and creative ways by taking into account the interests of all parties involved.
Mohannadi appreciated the role played by RACA and the humanitarian institutions in the country and their efforts in helping families, to achieve the principles of social solidarity. He said this MoU comes within the framework of the SJC’s plan to develop a comprehensive system of justice.
Mohanadi stressed that the council has always been keen to benefit from all social initiatives aimed at helping specific groups in society.
The SJC, within the framework of its humanitarian initiatives, had recently signed an MoU with the Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammed Bin Thani Social Welfare Foundation to establish a fund to solve the problem of overdue expenses for divorcees, children and relatives of those sentenced.
