Three new hospitals, each with a capacity of 120 beds, will be added to Qatar’s healthcare system by the beginning of next year, the Private Engineering Office (PEO) on Saturday said.

Located in Industrial Area, Mesaieed and Ras Laffan, all the three hospitals are under different stages of completion by the Private Engineering Office, a government agency that oversees high-profile development projects in the country.

“These medical facilities are built as part of the government’s keenness to provide high-quality health services to the growing population in the central, south and the north regions of the country,” an official said.

According to the PEO, the bed capacity of the hospitals can be increased in the future as part of any expansion plans.

In a statement, the PEO said the implementation of the hospital project is being carried out in co-ordination with the Cabinet and the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) and “according to high quality standards”.

Besides the 120 beds, each hospital has a health centre, an outpatient clinic, an emergency centre, lobby and waiting areas. The hospitals will be equipped with all the necessary services, laboratories and other support services, in addition to green spaces and parking areas, according to the statement.

“The new hospitals will be handed over to the Ministry of Public Health in the last quarter of 2016 and the beginning of next year,” the PEO said adding the MOPH will embark on the implementation of the operational requirements according to a scheduled plan.

“This project will have a significant impact and make a qualitative leap in health services in Qatar as it would contribute to easing the burden on the existing hospitals to provide better services to citizens and residents towards achieving the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030,” the PEO added.

Meanwhile, the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is witnessing its busiest expansion programme which will see several new hospitals creating more than 1,100 new hospital beds before the end of December 2017.
