Meet on spreading traffic safety culture held

DOHA: The most prominent traffic violations by motorists are committed due to high speed, engagement with mobile phones, wrong overtaking, deviation from the lane, not having proper distance with other vehicles, said an official from the General Directorate of Traffic.

In a panel discussion organised yesterday by the department entitled “The Importance of Traffic Safety among Students of Military Colleges”, Lieutenant Abdul Wahid Al Anzi, Traffic Awareness Officer, suggested a coordination committee to be established between the Department of Awareness and Military Colleges in the field of raising awareness, establishing a fixed schedule of awareness activities, and providing military colleges with road safety publications and road signs.

The panel dealt with a number of topics like the common wrong traffic behaviours, the role of military colleges in spreading the culture of traffic safety, the importance of a good role model for future officers, and prospects of cooperation between military colleges and traffic department.

Colonel Mohammed Radhi Al Hajri, Director, Media and Traffic Awareness department said that the students of the military colleges are the leaders of the future and the shield of the homeland and its protectors, and their traffic behavior should be an example for others to imitate. On the Shari’ah view of the traffic violation behaviour, preacher Ahmed Al Buainain said that Allah has ordered us not to throw yourselves to the destruction.
