Qatar’s first skydiving center lets residents take a leap of faith
Thrill-seekers in Qatar will have a new way to get their adrenaline fix when the country’s first skydiving center opens to the public today.
The opening ceremony took place yesterday, with the support of the Emir’s brother Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani.
Starting today, tandem jumps can be booked through Skydive Qatar, which is based at the Al Khor airfield, north of Doha.
The inaugural season of the new center will run through May, before taking a break for Ramadan and the summer. Activities will then restart in early winter.

Beginners can jump with an instructor from 13,000 ft above ground, with morning or afternoon slots on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The center’s offerings are not for those on a budget. The cost is QR1,899 per person, including photo and video footage of the jump.
This is slightly less than Skydive Dubai‘s AED1,999 cost. To compare, a tandem jump from 15,000ft in the UK during weekends costs £279 (approximately QR1,500).
However, a company representative said that some of the sessions in Al Khor, which take a maximum of 10 beginners and 10 instructors, are already fully booked.
