New York: H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) paid a visit to one of the Qatar Foundation International (QFI) partner Primary Schools, in Brooklyn, New York.
During the visit, Her Highness reviewed the Arabic language and culture classes through art. The program aims at encouraging students to think critically and build bridges of communication with the Arab world.
Her Highness met with teachers and administrators, as well as parents of students participating in this program, which is supported by the Qatar Foundation International , to discuss its development.
Qatar Foundation International (QFI) , a member of the Qatar Foundation based in the United States, is partnering with the World Language Project, a non-profit organization in New York City to enable the school to expand its Arabic education program from extracurricular activities to a course. The “Art in Arabic” class currently serves about 540 students from kindergarten through 5th Grade.
The course focuses on acquiring and mastering the language, learning about the contemporary Arab culture and the events taking place in the Arab world, as well as allocating a full part about the culture of the State of Qatar.
In order to promote cultural exchanges and understanding, the school recently entered into a partnership with the Metropolitan Museum of Art to organize student visits to the Museum of Islamic Art and to host artists twice in class.
