DOHA: An exhibition of creations by Italian artist Elisabetta Farina opened at the Katara Cultural Village Building 19 on Wednesday.

Interestingly titled “Beautiful to eat, Good to look at,” the exhibition showcases artworks in the form of oversized cupcakes, boxes of chocolates and bright banquets. Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Sayed, Deputy General Manager of Katara and Carlotta Colli, Charge d’ Affaires at the Italian Embassy in Qatar opened the exhibition in the presence of a number of visitors and dignitaries. The exhibition will run until May 13 and is open to public from10am to 10pm.

“We are very happy to host, together with Katara, this special exhibition by Italian resident artist Elisabetta Farina. What we like about this exhibition is that it presents an ironic perspective on a theme, which is also serious, and engage the visitors in a reflection on the interlink between hand, nutrition and overconsumption. It is a journey through the world of pastry and a food for thought for everyone,” said Colli.

Farina said the exhibition represents the “sweet” memories connected to the places she lived, such as Doha, New York, Paris and Italy.

The inspiration of the exhibition came from the observation of a growing trend: the so called Cake mania. Chocolate and sugar are used as artistic material as it is done with bronze and clay.”

The title summarises the message and the content of the exhibition. The “beautiful” is not only to “see” but also to “eat” and the “good” is not only to “taste” but also to “watch”.
