Israeli President Isaac Herzog received US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on Monday to discuss the latest developments in the region.

Herzog said: “We thank the United States for its support for Israel during this difficult period, and we have an inherent right to defend ourselves against any party.”

He continued: “There is no issue more important than returning the hostages to their homes.”

For his part, Blinken said: “This is the best and perhaps the last opportunity to release the hostages and reach an agreement. It is time to reach a deal and avoid escalating matters.”
