DOHA: Using advanced agricultural technology, the Central Nursery of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment produces 2.6 million saplings of various flower plants and trees in a year.
The figure was revealed at Qatar-Turkey Forum for Flower Gardens which was opened by Minister of Municipality and Environment, H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi yesterday.
Over 50 Qatari and Turkish companies producing and trading flowers and decoration plants and their representatives participated in the forum.
“The Forum is a platform to exchange the experience and agricultural technologies between Qatar and Turkey,” said Minister of Municipality and Environment, H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi.
He said that the Ministry of Municipality and Environment is focusing on the plantation and making greenery across the country following Qatar National Vision 2030 adding that the move is being carried out by the Environment Department at the Ministry in collaboration with Social and Economic Development and Environment Protection Department.
Minister of Municipality and Environment said that the Ministry reached an advanced stage in the sector of the plantation and making greenery across the country by using advanced agricultural technologies to improve the traits of trees genetically which suits to the desert climate.

“The Forum showcased many plants and flowers suitable to Qatar climate,” said Turkish Ambassador to Qatar, Fikret Ozer, adding that the presence of Turkish companies meant their participation in planting and making greenery at the venues of World Cup 2022 which will be hosted by Qatar.
“The Forum will conclude tomorrow (Thursday) with the visit of Turkish delegation to the Central Nursery where they will be briefed about the agricultural technologies and plant productions of the country, said Mohammed Ali Al Khori, Director of Public Parks who is also the Head of the Organising Committee of the Forum.
He said that Public Parks Department succeeded in adopting advanced agricultural technologies which suits plants in the climate of Qatar. “The Central Nursery produces 2.6 million saplings including 600,000 of various flower plants and trees,” said Al Khori.
He said that the Forum was successful as about 30 companies from Qatar and 25 companies from Turkey for producing flowers and tree plants are participating. The Forum will provides opportunities to the businessmen of both countries to meet one to one to sign the agreement and MOUs, said Faiqa Ashkanani, Director of Quality Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
A prominent Turkish businessman, Tariq Bilal said that he wanted to supply to Qatar about a million fruit trees which suit to Qatari climate. Bilal said that he is expected to sign agreements with his counterparts in Qatar to supply flowers, fruit trees and decoration plants.
