An expat physician has been awarded a compensation of QR300, 000 by a Court of Cassation. The honourable court ordered a private medical centre to pay the amount to the doctor as it had refused to hire the doctor despite having made an employment agreement.

According to local Arabic daily Arrayah, the honourable court also directed the clinic to bear all the litigation costs that the victim had incurred and also pay the necessary expenses required for the repatriation of the doctor.

The said expat doctor had completed all the necessary approvals and documents with a concerned department at the health centre and obtained a license of a dermatologist.

However, due to some unforeseeable he could not secure a specialist classification, following which the centre denied him employment, citing lack of ‘specialist status’ as the reason.

The court, however, ruled in favour of the doctor and said that it wasn’t a shortcoming on part of the doctor and he cannot be denied employment on this basis, holding the centre at fault for not staying true to the employment agreement.
