Reacting to a report published yesterday in an Indian daily Times of India, which alleged that two Indians working in Qatar have sought to be rescued after were stripped to their undergarments and whipped by their employer, India’s Minister of External Affairs Ms. SushmaSwaraj has ordered an inquiry into the matter.

Swaraj who known for being quite active on Twitter, announced on her official handle that the Ministry will be looking to hold both the sponsor as well as the agent who sent the duo to Qatar responsible for this gross misconduct.

The duo had reportedly sought a job in Qatar in October and allege that their agent betrayed them by promising them a well-paying job, however, upon arriving in Qatar they were taken to a farm located near the Saudi-Qatar border and asked to care for the farm’s camels and goats

India’s External Affairs Minister has ordered an investigation into reports that two nationals in Qatar have been severely abused by their employer.

The report in the Indian newspaper identified the duo as Parvez Ahmad, aged 24 and Mohammed Akram, aged 27; both hailing from Uttar Pradesh state of India.

The Indian Embassy in Qatar as well Govt. authorities are yet to comment on the matter.

Although, Qatar’s Govt. has been working tirelessly to improve the conditions for its expat workforce, however, due to the shameful acts of a few exploitative employers the entire country gets a bad name and puts a question mark on all the efforts that the Govt. has been doing to address the concerns of the expat workers.

We hope that the authorities will take the necessary action and take such exploitative employers to take who bring the entire country into disrepute.
