ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Areas in Aleppo Governorate are witnessing military mobilization following a decision by Turkey to dissolve one of the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions in Northwest Syria, North Press correspondent said on Wednesday.
Under the guidance of Turkey, the Ministry of Defense of the Syrian Interim Government (SIG), affiliated with Turkish-backed Syrian opposition, issued a decision on Sep. 16 to dissolve Soqour al-Shamal faction.
North Press correspondent cited a military source as saying that the Turkish side ordered the dissolution of the Soqour al-Shamal (Northern Hawks) faction, which is within the Second Corps of the SNA.
The SIG’s Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday the dissolution of the faction, stating that the decision is “part of a plan to restructure the Syrian National Army.”
The dissolved faction rejected the decision and announced in a statement that its militants were merging with the al-Jabha al-Shamiya (Levant Front) faction, which has recently been at odds with the SIG and its leader, Abdurrahman Mustafa.
Militants of the dissolved faction were mobilized in Afrin, Azaz, and other areas in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
