With the spell of cold weather and rain keeping customers away from the local market, traders at the Central Wholesale Market in Doha have decided to cut prices of vegetable and fruits.
Although the local production has made it easier for vendors to sell freshly harvested vegetables on the same day to the customers, the current weather conditions have resulted in less customers visiting market, reports The Peninsula.
The daily reported a vendor at the Central Market, who said that the prices of local vegetables including cucumber, cabbage, green chilly, capsicum, tomato, egg plant, bitter gourd, pumpkin, beans, broccoli, green onions, and various leaves and herbs among others have gone down.
He stated that cucumber which was sold for QR 15 for a carton (7 to 8 kg) earlier is now being sold at QR 10 per box.
The vendor further stated that vegetables are mostly from farms in Doha, located in Al Khor and Al Shamal. It is essential for them to sell maximum quantity of fruits and vegetables by the end of the day, and so prices go down as the day ends.
