Doha: A “smart jacket” for workers, which can follow up the health situation of the worker and take appropriate action in case of an emergency, was launched today by the Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs H E Dr Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi.

The smart jacket, created by a Qatari engineer, was launched on the sidelines of the 2nd Occupational Safety and Health Conference. The jacket features a helmet with a cooling system and a chip that gives signals if he or she is at risk, such as excessive stress, rapid heartbeat, or increased breathing.

The sensors in the jacket sends signals to the control room indicating the condition of the worker, and thus take appropriate action in the workplace thanks to the tracking system working by solar power and includes an audio communication system.

Dr Al Nuaimi expressed pride in this important Qatari invention as it contains many advantages, including cooling option during high temperature and biometrics and health status monitoring.

He pointed out that the smart jacket, which was manufactured in cooperation with a leading Chinese company, is ready for sale in Qatar and is also available to companies operating around the world.

He noted that the Second Occupational Safety and Health Conference brings together representatives of international organizations concerned with workers, local authorities, institutions and companies to exchange views and experiences in providing safe and healthy and healthy work environments.

During the opening session of the conference, the occupational safety and health awards were presented to the distinguished and leading companies in this field.
