Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), announced that the nominations for the 4th annual Qatar Sustainability Awards will continue to be accepted until January 26. The prize is one of the first and largest awards in Qatar that honour the efforts, commitment and excellence of people, institutions and organisations in supporting sustainable development.
This came during a ceremony honouring partners and sponsors for the fourth annual edition of the Qatar Sustainability Week 2019 organised by the Qatar Green Building Council yesterday. Director of QGBC Meshal al-Shammari referred to the effective and valuable participation of public and private bodies and institutions that contribute to achieving the council’s vision to build a sustainable future, valuing their role in the Qatar Sustainability Week initiative aimed at building a healthy environment and contributing to achieving the sustainable development goals of Qatar.
He pointed out that the partners, through their contributions, highlighted innovative solutions to the environmental challenges facing the Qatar and the region as a whole, praising their programmes and efforts made to achieve the National Vision 2030 in line with the global sustainability agenda. Al-Shammari indicated that the fourth edition of Qatar Sustainability Week, concluded last November, witnessed the organisation of more than 280 events in co-operation with more than 160 partners from various fields, which provided specific programmes for all groups of society.
He explained that these activities had a significant impact on society, as the number of follow-ups on social media reached more than 5mn, and that the messages of the Council to the public reached almost a million messages, varying between Friday sermons, electronic platforms, advertising campaigns and advertisements to educate the largest possible number of citizens and residents.
