23,000 banned pills, 52 reptiles (including snakes) seized at airport last year

In one of the most surprising security checks last year, officials at the Hamad International Airport seized 6 bags containing 52 reptiles, including snakes.

According to a report in The Peninsula, the General Authority of Customs made a total of 355 seizures of narcotics, including hashish, heroin, narcotic pills, marijuana and other banned substances. Another major seizure was that of 23,000 banned psychotropic pills from an Arab passenger. In the same year, banned ‘Tramadol’ pills concealed in sealed tea boxes were also bagged.

Among other banned substances, at least 4 passengers were caught smuggling marijuana and narcotic opium to Doha.
