In recent years, the Gulf state has looked to position itself as a financial and investment hub for the region and this is clearly evident in the rankings, with banking and insurance firms dominating the top half.
Despite its tiny size, Qatar is also an energy powerhouse and one of biggest liquified natural gas (LNG) exporters on the planet. Again, this was clear to see in our latest list, with utilities firms also making up a significant proportion.
Methodology
The list of Qatar’s top 30 largest companies was based on the QAR market capitalisation of Qatar Exchange-listed companies at the close of trading on 23 August.
No government-owned entities or privately-held companies were included in the rankings.
