DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has concluded its medical project in Jordan with the help of a medical delegation that performed cardiac catheterizations for Syrian refugees and Jordanian patients.
The QR390,000 project involved four partners: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO), the Jordan University Hospital, and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) – Spain and the Netherlands.
Over 10 days, the medical team examined 235 Syrian and Jordanian patients with symptoms, or a history, of chest pain or heart problems. A total of 64 diagnostic and 27 therapeutic catheterizations were performed, and two cases were referred for open-heart surgery. The medical delegation consisted of three cardiovascular consultants from HMC, who were assisted by medical staff from the Jordan University Hospital.
Solaiman (47) was diagnosed with a blockage in the pulmonary trunk, the main pulmonary artery that carries deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs. Such critical cases require immediate intervention and, if not treated in time, can lead to death.
For years, Soliaman had been using more than 10 sublingual tablets of cardiovascular drugs on a daily basis. As the stent was inserted into the artery, the blood started to flow normally again. The procedure turned out successful, giving the poor patient a new life.
Together with the first project in October 2017, this intervention has benefited 130 patients in Jordan. It is part of QRCS’s Medical Caravan Program for 2018, which is covering 13 countries in Asia and Africa.
