Mother and two children killed at railroad crossing
An Afghan asylum seeker and her two children died after being hit by a freight train at a railroad crossing near Örnsköldsvik, northern Sweden.
The barriers were apparently down when the woman stepped out on the crossing on Saturday morning, pushing a double stroller.
The previous day, the family, along with around 30 other asylum seekers, had been moved from an asylum seekers’ residence in Skåne, southern Sweden to a camping and spa site in the small village of Trehörningsjö north of the town Örnsköldsvik, tabloid Aftonbladet reported.
Speaking to Aftonbladet, the manager of the asylum seekers’ residence, Patrick Hollinger, said that the woman was between 30 and 40 years old and that her children were around one and three.
