🔴 Live: Aid deliveries to Gaza resume through US-built pier
The first aid from an American-built pier arrived in Gaza on Saturday since storm damage required repairs to the project, the US military said, relaunching an effort to bring supplies to Palestinians by sea that had been plagued with problems. The pier constructed by the US military was operational for only about a week before it was blown apart in high winds and heavy seas on May 25. Read FRANCE 24’s live coverage of the day’s events.

Summary:
The first aid from an American-built pier arrived in Gaza on Saturday since storm damage required repairs to the project, the US military said, relaunching an effort to bring supplies to Palestinians by sea that had been plagued with problems.
At least 36,801 Palestinians have been killed and 83,680 wounded in Israel’s war in Gaza, according to the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry. Some 1,170 people were killed in the Hamas-led October 7 attacks and 250 people were taken hostage, with about 120 remaining in Gaza, according to Israeli tallies. Many have been declared dead by Israeli authorities.
Yesterday’s key developments:
Israel’s army on Saturday announced it had rescued four hostages from Hamas captivity in Gaza. It is the largest rescue operation of living hostages since the war started.
Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas called Saturday for an emergency UN Security Council session over a deadly Israeli air raid on al-Nuseirat refugee camp near where four Israeli hostages were freed the same day.
Israeli war cabinet minister Benny Gantz cancelled a news conference that was scheduled for Saturday, his office said, amid speculation he had been planning to resign from the government. The cancellation came after news broke of Israel’s hostage rescue operation.
US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron are expected to discuss the latest ceasefire proposal between Hamas and Israel in a meeting in Paris on Saturday.
