A new round of conflict is looming over the region, awaiting an attack that Iran has threatened after the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh on its territory, amid regional fears of slipping into a “direct confrontation” with the participation of “Tehran’s arms”, at a time when Israel is intensifying its preparations to confront “revenge” missiles and drones.

With the increasing threats from Iran and Hezbollah to “take revenge” on Israel after the assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran, and Fouad Shukr in Beirut, questions have arisen about the effectiveness of the Israeli defense system to confront an attack that observers expect to include hundreds of drones and high-precision missiles.

Axios revealed that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken informed his counterparts from the G7 countries that an attack by Iran and Hezbollah on Israel could begin within 24 hours.

Military analysts and observers considered that Israel is preparing for a “multi-front” attack that will put its defense system under great strain, especially with the emphasis on seeking to “punish Israel”, in addition to its arms continuing to prepare for retaliatory operations.

Iranian missiles and drones

The region tested “Iran’s response” in mid-April, when it launched a barrage of more than 330 missiles and drones, in response to the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

Over the past years, Tehran has developed a group of ballistic missiles and drones in a program that has long worried the West, while missiles constitute an important part of the current arsenal.

Among the Iranian missile systems that could reach Israel:

“Sejil”: It can travel more than 17,000 kilometers per hour and has a range of up to 2,500 kilometers.

“Khaybar”: It has a range of up to 2,000 kilometers and is equipped with a highly explosive warhead weighing 1,500 kilograms, while its high speed makes it difficult to intercept and destroy.
“Haj Qassem”: It has a range of 1,400 kilometers and is named after the commander of the Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani. It can be considered the first Iranian tactical ballistic missile that operates on solid fuel and can reach Israel.
