A Nepalese expat has been sentenced to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment for indulging in the trade of illicit narcotic drugs in Qatar by a Criminal Court here in Doha

According to local Arabic daily Arrayah, the honourable court also imposed a fine of QR200, 000 on the defendant for the heinous crime.

The expat was convicted in light of the evidence presented by the public prosecution team against him, which included 5kg of amphetamine pills that were recovered from his possession and were meant for consumption and trade.

The involvement of the defendant in drug trade came to light after police received a tip-off about his activities. In order to apprehend the defendant red-handed, an undercover police officer was authorised to approach the defendant as a client and ask for amphetamine pills worth QR950.

The defendant agreed to sell the illicit drugs to the undercover police officer and turned up at the agreed time and place of delivery, where police officials nabbed him in the middle of the deal. Upon further search of his accommodation more quantity of the narcotic were recovered.
