DOHA: The new crescent of Dhul Hijjah of 1439 H will appear on 29 Dhul Qa’da (August 11) at 12:59pm, Doha local time, which is the day of sighting, according to astronomical calculations by Qatar Calendar House. Hence Sunday (August 12) is the beginning of Dhul Hijjah 1439 H.
The decision of the entry of Dhul Hijjah is legitimised by the Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
Astronomy expert at Qatar Calendar House Dr. Beshir Marzouk said that crescent of Dhul Hijjah of 1439H will be born after the partial eclipse of the sun reaches its peak. The eclipse will reach its peak on Saturday at 12:46pm, the moment before the birth of Dhul Hijjah crescent.
He pointed out that Dhul Hijjah crescent of 1439 H will disappear from the skies of Doha on Saturday (August 11, 2018), the day of sighting, at 6.23pm, while the sun will set at 6.12 pm, which means that the crescent will remain after the sunset in the skies of Doha for a period of 11 minutes.
Therefore, Saturday, August 11, is the end of Dhul Qa’da 1439 H and Sunday, August 12, is the beginning of Dhul Hijjah 1439 H.
