Doha: Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) and Venergate CO. LTD., have established a joint collaboration agreement that aims to develop and commercialize an advanced battery technology for electricity storage including solar applications.
Venergate Co. LTD is a consortium of five Korean companies (JNTG Co. Ltd., Pro-Power Communication Co. Ltd., ILDO F&C Co. Ltd., Dong-A Hwa Sung Co. Ltd., E-quality Inc). These companies bring a long experience in technology development and commercialization and well-established capabilities in product design and manufacturing.
As a part of its mission to address Qatar’s grand challenges, QEERI researchers are already working to develop energy storage solutions to support the large-scale deployment of solar technology in Qatar. This joint collaboration will allow QEERI to accelerate the development and the deployment of a viable energy storage technology suited for Qatar’s climate.
Commenting on this partnership, Energy Storage Research Portfolio Lead and Technology Committee Chair at QEERI, Dr. Rachid Zaffou said: “This industrial partnership represents an opportunity for QEERI to further support its mission to transform scientific ideas into value-added technology innovations that can benefit Qatar in its effort towards a sustainable and prosperous future.”
QEERI is working towards tackling the Energy Security Grand Challenge through focused research in several related areas, including photovoltaics, energy storage, and smart grid research portfolios.
