Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, inaugurated today in Education City a new artwork added to the collection of artworks at Qatar Foundation entitled “Together” by Korean artist Chaoye Young, who created this work to celebrate the organization of the FIFA World Cup. Qatar 2022™.
The inauguration was attended by Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation, and a number of Their Excellencies Sheikhs and Ministers. The ceremony was also attended by a group of sports ambassadors in Qatar and former football stars, including Ahmed Khalil, Mubarak Mustafa, Khaled Salman, Adel Khamis and Ostoura. Australian football team Tim Cahill, a group of local and international artists, and the ceremony included a performance by students of Qatar Academy – Doha, one of the schools of the Qatar Foundation, to perform the song “Welcome”, one of the official songs of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

Located near Education City Stadium, the sculpture is made of stainless steel and consists of workers’ helmets, soccer balls, mirror balls, and other elements inspired by local culture. The artwork takes the form of a dandelion flower, which represents global audiences at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
The inauguration of the “Together” model reflects Qatar Foundation’s keenness to devote art to reflect the Qatari cultural heritage, as well as appreciating the workers’ efforts and their great contribution to supporting Qatar’s preparations to host the first World Cup tournament of its kind in the Middle East and the Arab world, and ensuring the immortalization of the role they provided permanently. The artwork will remain in place after the tournament ends. Thousands of fans will soon be able to watch this action on their way to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ at Education City Stadium.
In turn, Korean artist Chaoye Young said: “The idea of the artwork “together” revolves around the values of togetherness and coexistence in our society, as the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ is a global celebration of sport, and such an event cannot be organized by individual efforts, and these values embody the extent of our connection to each other. Some of us stick together.”
In describing the structure of the artwork: “The shape of this artwork is inspired by the dandelion flower and what it reflects of vitality and life, and how its seeds are blown together by the wind and bloom and flourish.”
Laila Ibrahim Pasha, Director of Projects and Artistic Works at Qatar Foundation, said: “For us at Qatar Foundation, art is a tool for community development, a means to enrich creativity, enhance culture and heritage, and stimulate innovation, constructive dialogue and cultural exchange, which are important elements for community development.”
She added, “Art can serve as a bridge and link between communities, individuals with common interests, and between the academic and professional sectors, and play a multidisciplinary leadership role in the future.”
The guests of the inauguration ceremony participated in one of the “Art Trail” tours, an initiative launched by Qatar Foundation with the aim of providing an opportunity for individuals to explore the collection of artworks acquired by Education City.
This work is part of a group of art pieces in Education City that celebrate the efforts of workers in all sectors, such as the “Truck and Workers” painting, by artist Faraj Daham, and the exhibition “Meditation Therapy” by Qatari-American artist Sophia Al Maria, both of which are in “Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art.” and a mural “Between Memory, Desert and Sea” by Douglas Cooper, Sarah Cooper and Nina Gorver, located at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, one of Qatar Foundation’s partner universities.
Over the years, Qatar Foundation has invested in public art, with Education City now home to more than 150 pieces of art available for the public to explore and enjoy, along with Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, in an effort to serve the Qatari community and visitors to Qatar from across the region and the world. By using the influence and attraction of art to promote dialogue and understanding between cultures. The artwork “Together” reflects Qatar Foundation’s keenness to advance a culture of constructive dialogue on the most prominent social issues, and to dedicate its platforms and resources to support positive change, whether through education, research, policy making or spreading social awareness.
Qatar’s commitment to being a cultural destination has seen the inauguration of a range of works of art that stimulate thought and creativity across the country by a selection of the most prominent international and local artists, including art sculptures, murals, calligraphy, poetry and photography.
