Obama nominates Carter to replace Hagel at US Pentagon
US President Barack Obama has nominated Ashton Carter as his next defense secretary, following Chuck Hagel’s resignation last month. After the appearance of the “Islamic State,” Obama and Hagel found themselves at odds.
Long the rumored nominee, Ashton Carter, 60, would replace Chuck Hagel, the former Republican senator and Vietnam war veteran who resigned last month.
