Qatar Airways has been awarded the title of “Best Up In The Air” carrier for the second year in a row by industry experts.
The national airline was the only Gulf carrier to win an award at the 6th Future Global Travel Experience 2015 (FTGE), which was held in Las Vegas this month.
The travel awards recognize carriers’ efforts to improve their customers’ flying experiences, and are judged by an anonymous panel of aviation experts.
Others who won awards included United, Lufthansa, JetBlue, SJC, KLM, LGW, SpiceJet, U.S. CBP, Icelandair and Vision-Box.
Spate of awards
Qatar Airways’ was lauded for utilizing technology to improve the in-flight experience. The carrier attributed this to its in-flight entertainment system.
The airline is also working on rolling out onboard Wi-Fi across its fleet.
In a statement, CEO Akbar Al Baker said:
“From providing the world’s best Business Class on one of the world’s most modern fleet of aircraft, serviced by our devoted cabin crew, we continue to exceed our passengers’ expectations and to set new standards for tomorrow’s in-flight experience.”
The award comes after the airline slipped to second best in a Skytrax ranking in July, losing out to its closest regional rival, Emirates.
However, at the time Qatar Airways took home three other awards: World’s Best Business Class; Best Business Class Airline Lounge; and Best Airline Staff in the Middle East.
And the carrier still came out on top in a ranking by AirHelp in March, based on its punctuality and customer service.
