Doha – With Eid Al Adha around the corner, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) are leaving no stone unturned to make the festivities a fun-filled affair.
While the MEC has subsidised the prices of animals for citizens, the MME has intensified its inspection campaigns at food establishments across the country to ensure their commitment to food safety.
In a statement on Sunday, the MEC said it reached an agreement with Widam Food Company to sell Jordanian sheep at QR1,100 for Qataris.
It said the company has allocated outlets in the Central Market, Al Khor, Al Shamal and Al Mazrouaa areas to sell sheep to Qataris at the subsidised price.
Beginning on September 4, the offer will end on the third day of Eid Al Adha.
The ministry will carry out inspections to monitor the prices offered through this initiative, which is into its fourth year.
The initiative is meant for Qataris and the buyer must show his/her ID card to avail the offer.
The MEC asked Widam Food Company not to sell any substandard sheep. The company must provide appropriate barns for the animals.
Similarly, the Doha Municipality has intensified its inspection campaigns on all food establishments in various parts of the country.
The campaign is aimed at ensuring that retailers and service providers comply with the necessary health conditions when handling foodstuff before selling them.
