The Qatar Fuel ( Woqod) has started installing electronic microchips in fuel tanks of vehicles owned by individuals to speed up the payment system.
The move is also meant to enable motorists to track the transactions of refueling their vehicles through an SMS alert system. The system, named ‘WOQODe’, works on a microchip affixed near the fuel tank opening. The chip, which carries details of the vehicle such as its registration number, name and location of petrol station (where a customer prefers refuelling), date, time and other details as desired.
To avail of the new service, motorists would call to the customer service centre on 40217777 for registration and take appointment for installing microchips, which the firm calls “tag”. After taking appointment the motorist will have to head to a designated Woqod petrol station in New Al Rayyan, near Ansar Gallery.
The fee for the service is QR220 including QR195 for tag and QR25 as service charge, said a source at Woqod. The tag comes with a pre-paid top-up service, which is available at every Woqod fuel station. The top-up starts from QR20 and there is no maximum limit, he added. The vehicle should be for private use and in the name of the applicant, he added.
“We have good response from motorists for our new service. The hotline is available from 6am to 10pm but with growing demand, the service will be available round-the-clock,” said the source.
Woqod has posted the service on social media sites. The post reads: “The best way to pay and track your fuel purchases, for the first time in Qatar, you can now pay for your fuel purchases in seconds using a REID log at any Woqod petrol station. Save time with a cashless, pre-paid system. Achieve total control with SMS notification, eliminate unauthorized refueling.”
“Sign up and get a Woqod tag, use it every time you refuel your vehicles at any Woqod petrol station, track your fuel cost with SMS notification. If you sell or scrap your vehicle, make sure to inform our customers service to close your account to avoid any further charges,” it added.
The applicants have to produce their valid Qatari ID and vehicle’s registration card (road permit) during registration.
