Violations related to workers’ rights decrease

DOHA: Director of Labour Inspection Department at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs Mohammed Ali Al Meer said the that there is no negligence over violations by companies related to compromise on workers’ safety.

“The procedures that we have adopted in such cases is to transfer the company to Public Prosecution, stop the work at its work site and cut company’s transactions at the ministry,” he said.

Al Meer pointed out that due to ministry’s actions, the violations related to workers’ rights witnessed a decrease and every year they were lesser than the previous years.

“The Ministry has 400 inspectors who conduct raids on the companies to detect violations related to workers’ rights, and also provide guidance and tips to companies and workers to raise their awareness about their rights,” Al Meer told The Peninsula yesterday on the sidelines of the International Labour Day marked by the ministry at the Qatar Sports Club.

With regard to the protection of workers’ rights and the development of labour systems, Al Meer noted that an office for cooperation between the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs was opened in order to develop procedures and regulations in the Ministry such as the issue of workers wages rehabilitation of the inspectors and occupational health of the workers.
