33.5% increase in passenger traffic at Hamad Airport during the first half of 2023

Hamad International Airport achieved growth in the number of passengers during the first half of 2023, maintaining the increasing numbers it witnessed during the past year. The award-winning airport recorded a 33.5% growth in passenger traffic and an 18.1% increase in aircraft traffic compared to the same period last year.

Hamad International Airport witnessed a total of 20,775,087 passengers during the first half of 2023 – of which 10,315,695 were in the first quarter and 10,459,392 were in the second quarter. Aircraft movement also increased compared to last year, as the total movement of arriving and departing aircraft reached 116,296 aircraft – 56,417 in the first quarter and 59,879 in the second quarter.

During the first half of 2023, 1,121,382 tons of freight were handled through the airport and 17,596,776 bags were transported through its facilities, including 11,376,483 converted flight bags.

The second quarter of 2023 saw passenger traffic increase by 24% compared to the same period last year, with 3,281,773 passengers in April, 3,440,047 in May and 3,737,572 in June. Aircraft movements also witnessed a gradual increase compared to last year, reaching 18,762 aircraft in April, 20,226 in May and 20,891 in June. In terms of total destinations during the second quarter of this year, the airport witnessed a total of 194 scheduled passenger destinations and cargo services.

The airport applied the latest security screening techniques to reduce waiting time and enhance security at its facilities. Modern security screening devices allow transiting passengers to keep electronic devices and containers of liquids in their carry-on baggage. During the second quarter of this year, the average waiting time for transit passengers at security checkpoints was only 28 seconds.
