Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani’s Museum hosts Exhibition of UCL (University College London – Qatar) “Shifting Sands: Qatar’s Journey and its people”.
Doha, Qatar- 4 April 2016: A temporary exhibition on the theme – “Shifting Sands – A Journey of Qatar and its People’ will be inaugurated on the 07th of April in the temporary exhibition space at the Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani Museum. This annual exhibition curated by UCL Qatar’s MA Museum and Gallery Practice students will be held in partnership with the Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani Museum. The two month-long exhibition is an excellent display of memorabilia of early pioneer life and aims to create a dialogue between different generations and cultures through the objects and the stories that will be showcased. The research has also led to the development of intercultural understanding with specific focus on Qatari culture and its people.
Different mediums and means of display such as the use of story-telling, interviews and videos will be an attractive feature of the exhibition. Visitors will enjoy many fine exhibits from different parts of the museum, ranging from archaeological objects to a vehicle, and demonstrate the range and depth of Sheikh Faisal’s collection. The journey of Qatar and its people will be presented along with the stories that they collectively hold. Furthermore, Sheikh Faisal has extended his support to the students by providing more than 120 photographs from his unique private archive. These photographs explore and celebrate the sport of hunting in Qatar through the passage of time.
The exhibition will have stalls under four vivid themes: Life in the desert, Changing landscape, Socializing and Icons. Together, these will showcase the rich cultural heritage of Qatar with its diverse traditions and cultures, leaving a lasting impression on the visitors.
The exhibition will remain open for the general public from 7th of April 2016 to 7th of June 2016.
