The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has partnered with Commercial Bank Qatar (CBQ) to make it easier for workers to transfer money back to their home countries.

The collaboration gives workers the chance to use CBQ’s mobile app and transfer money in a simple, fast and safe way. The solution offers an attractive exchange rate and means workers don’t have to give up their free time to transfer money via traditional exchange facilities.

Between travel time and queueing, workers lose an average of two hours every time they choose to wire money to their families, invariably on rest days.

Over recent weeks, CBQ officials have worked alongside the SC to train workers who do not have easy access to ATMs or exchange facilities. A dedicated call centre has also been launched to accommodate any queries in relation to the new solution.

Khalid Al Kubaisi, Chief of the SC’s Advisory Unit & Special Projects, said the new solution is saving 2022 FIFA World Cup workers time and money.

“We are extremely proud to partner with CBQ on this initiative and have been impressed with the work carried out so far,” said Al Kubaisi.

“The training has allowed our workers to learn about the benefits of this service and put them into practice immediately. Time and money is precious for everyone and we hope this service gives our workers more of both.”

More than 8,000 SC workers bank with CBQ. Between them they transfer approximately QAR 16 million every month to their home countries. The new app offers competitive exchange rates and transaction fees from just QAR 5. In addition to transferring money, the app allows customers to view balances, check statements, change pin numbers and block lost/stolen cards.

Amit Sah, CBQ’s EGM, said the technology reflects the changing needs of consumers.

“We are continuously investing in technologies that will improve the way we work for the benefit of our customers and Qatar,” said Sah.

“We want to be the leading bank for innovation, and initiatives like this one are key to achieving our goal. The way consumers fulfil their banking needs is changing. Our customers want to bank and transact on the go, and offering this feature utilises the latest technology to respond to this ever increasing demand.”
